The director will provide the vision and leadership required to support and enhance the mission of the Aviation Systems Technology program. Primary administrative responsibilities include program development/management, budget administration, providing supervision and mentoring to part time faculty and coordinating the preparation, approval and implementation of the Federal Aviation Administration Training Manual. Instructional responsibilities require a broad-based knowledge of the aviation industry and requirements of an FAA approved Part 147 program. The Program Director is a member of the full-time faculty and reports to the Vice President of Corporate and Continuing Education.
Administrative 1.Provides leadership and management to the overall Aviation Systems Technology program curriculum development/review including ensuring establishment of effective student learning outcomes and related assessment methods.2.Develops class schedules and faculty assignments in coordination with the VP of Corporate and Continuing Education and area faculty.3.Supports Aviation Systems Technology students through the academic program ensuring retention and graduation.4.Provides oversight of program budgets and inventory for all supplies and equipment.5.Participates in the colleges hiring process; orients new full and part time faculty.6.Participates in providing evaluative feedback to faculty/staff regarding job performance.7.Mentors part-time faculty to ensure academic quality and consistency.8.Identifies/promotes professional development for self and staff to ensure continued program relevancy.9.Maintains knowledge of current industry standards by developing relationships with industry leaders, experts and companies.10.Continuously evaluate national, regional and local workforce trends in the Aviation industry to ensure curricular relevancy.11.Assumes direct instructional responsibility for components of the Aviation Systems Technology curriculum in accordance with established college guidelines.12.Coordinates outreach and develops/maintains relationships with industry-related personnel and employers to promote the advancement of industry employment for graduates.13.Ensures curricular compliance with the Federal Aviation Administration through preparation and implementation of the 14 CFR Part 147 Training Manual.14.All other duties as assigned by the President or designee.
TeachingPrepare & teach departmental courses to include:developing learner centered lesson plansemploying teaching strategies & instructional materials for different learning stylesincorporating, as pedagogically appropriate, current technology in classroom, distance learning and laboratory environmentscreating and modeling a quality learning environment that supports a diverse student populationpreparing, distributing and utilizing instructional support materials, including course syllabi, supplementary materials, instructional media and other devices as appropriateupdating and revising curriculum to maintain currencydeveloping new courses as needed to support the instructional missionparticipating in the development and review of course and program/general education outcomes as appropriatedeveloping, conducting and documenting appropriate assessment of student learning outcomes in courses and programs/general education as appropriate
Professional DevelopmentMaintain a professional status that supports the instructional mission by:participating in professional development activities to maintain currency in field; maintaining current credentials or licensures as required by program or accreditationparticipating in professional development opportunities to advance teaching skills and strategies
AdministrationProvide daily & ongoing oversight of facilities, equipment and student records to include:maintaining classroom and laboratory spaces including upkeep of assigned equipmentproviding for the security of facilities, equipment and instructional materials and maintaining safe working conditionsmaintaining student records (e.g., grades and attendance) in accordance with established deadlines using a variety of technology-based programs (e.g., Colleague, WebAdvisor, Moodle)complying with all applicable college, state and federal rules and regulations
Student SupportProvide an environment conducive to student success to include:conducting recruiting activitiesproviding academic advisingpromoting retention/persistence by assisting students to develop strategies for success assisting students with the registration and graduation processreferring students to campus and community resources when appropriate
College ServiceSupport college-wide endeavors to include:collaboration with faculty and staff from other divisions/departments to promote communication, coordinate schedules and support student successserving on department, division and college committeesparticipating in GTCC institutional initiativescollaborating with educational partners, business/industry and/or external agencies as appropriate to promote the instructional mission of GTCCsupporting collegiality and teaching excellence by actively participating in the professional development of new and veteran faculty (e.g., mentoring and peer observation)participating in extracurricular student activities/clubsattending college professional development sessions, college/division/department meetings, graduation and convocation, as required
Demonstrate and model the Colleges employability skills: adaptability, communication, information processing, problem solving, responsibility and teamwork.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities:
Maintain student records.Perform all duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Associates degree in Aviation Systems or Aviation Technology from a regionally accredited post-secondary institution- Valid Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Mechanics Certificate with Airframe and Powerplant ratings- Management experience to include conducting employee evaluations.- Experience managing an FAA regulated Part 147 program.
- Bachelors degree in Aviation from a regionally accredited post-secondary institution- Non-Destructive Testing and Composite Repair Certification
-Three years documented experience in the aviation industry
-Post-secondary teaching experience in Aviation Systems Technology-Experience with assessment of student learning outcomes-Experience with distance learning and/or alternate instructional delivery systems
The Instructor shall possess an understanding of and commitment to the nature and role of the Community College, particularly its open door policy. Specific Departmental Requirements:1.The individual must meet TSA badging requirements to function in the Airport Operating Area at Piedmont Triad International (PTI) airport. 2.Individual must be able to safely operate aircraft and aircraft systems.
1.May include teaching day and evening and on multiple campuses2.Position may require standing for extended periods of time, stooping, walking, climbing, and bending to supervise students in confined areas inside, underneath, and on top of aircraft, as well as on elevated work stands and platforms. 3.Exposure to hazardous materials is possible and will require safe handling, use and disposal. Some classes require using flammable and/or inert high pressure gases, and using high pressure hydraulic equipment.4.Lifting, and the positioning of heavy equipment in preparation for classes and labs is required. 5.Work may be required in an environment that varies from hot to cold (seasonal), which can be both noisy and dusty, and require standing for lengthy periods.
